When should you pause your marketing efforts?

Global (dystopian) events such as COVID, Queen’s death, the Russian War, Hurricane Ian, etc. puzzled the marketers a bit. Should they play emotionally, or are wary of appearing tone-deaf?

It’s a bit American but, American peanut brand Planters was preparing for a big Super Bowl spot and campaign two years ago, which included the death (!) of its century-old mascot Mr. Peanut. But, not long after the brand announced his death and advertised a funeral during the Big Game, basketball star Kobe Bryant died in real life, putting Planters’ plans in jeopardy...
